American Zofingen

[update: October 27, 2005]

Returning back to Austin from a few relaxing post-race days in Maui, I decided to take a jaunt up to New Paltz, NY to cheer my friend David on in the American Zofingen race put on by John McGovern. Torrential rain overshadowed the previous day, and I can imagine how the thought of the treacherous course covered by wet leaves instilled doubt in the minds of the racers. Nevertheless the race turned out to be a charming event and the sun managed to even slightly show its face by the afternoon. The race site came complete with a choir of young voices singing the National Anthem, an all cross country style run trail ridden with florid trees and plank topped streams, Red Bull for racers and homemade split pea stew, meatballs and hot chocolate for spectators braving the cold! The finish took place inside a gazebo, with the actual finish atop a short flight of stairs. After the long course distances of 5 mile trail run, 84 mile bike, 15 mile trail run it was amazing to watch finishers bound up to the line! Congrats John, for your first race very well done…...

Welcome to my brand new site.

With this site I hope to provide you with a little more information on myself, Desiree Ficker, the person herself. Hopefully I can inspire you in your workouts, we all need that sometimes, I know, or to brighten your day a little with my journals. Please email me with any training or racing questions you have or anything else you might randomly want to get off your chest. I am in Kona right now getting ready for the Ironman. The race is tomorrow and I am nervous, excited, anxious and thrilled…...often all at once! I look forward to reading your words and if you are here in Kona competing, good luck and if you see me, please say hello!
